MUA-PIÄ # 2
2.10. -20.10.2024, HEHKU -SPACE
MUA-PIÄ #2 is a multi-arts ensemble that focuses on empty spaces and glorifies flowers and trees. According to the philosopher Emanuele Coccia, plants do not have opposites of matter vs. fantasy or mind vs. body. Rather, all life forms capable of photosynthesis could be described as inhuman and material deities, tame titans who do not need violence to establish new Worlds.* Instead of strict documentary, the works of MUA-PIÄ #2 reach towards fantastic material worlds. My painting style is expressive. I am fascinated by colors, movement and the materiality of the paint mark. My works are characterized by affectivity, corporeality and flashiness. I recorded experiential landscapes where different levels of being mix and breathe. The text work Sen väki tuli... (2024) is based on the meanings attached to the earth in old proverbs, and the name of the exhibition also plays with language. MUA-PIÄ is an Eastern dialect version of the imaginary compound word 'maa-pää', but it can also be interpreted as being formed from the partitive slang word 'mua' of the pronoun 'minä' + the verb 'pidä' 2nd p. imperative form 'piä' ( => pidä minua, in english => keep me). The exhibition is part of an interdisciplinary ensemble. Alongside the MUA-PIÄ exhibition series, I am writing an essay novel that partly varies the same themes. Artistic work has been supported by Koneen Säätiö.
