OPEN CALL FOR EXHIBITIONS 2027

The exhibition application period for 2027 at Art Centre Ahjo is now open. You may apply for exhibition time in the Sysi Hall, Hehku Space, Hiili Space, or the Kytö/Liekki Media Space.

The Kytö/Liekki Media Space is primarily intended for audiovisual works (various audio and video installations, multimedia works).

Applications must be submitted electronically (see instructions below) by 31 May 2026.

Art Centre Ahjo is located in the very center of Joensuu, in a charming Jugend-style wooden building in the courtyard of Joensuu Art Museum ONNI. In 2025, Art Centre Ahjo hosted 18 exhibition periods featuring 74 artists. The centre receives over 24,000 visitors annually. In connection with the art centre, in the Koksi Hall, operates Finland’s first art lending service, Joensuu Art Lending Service.

The commission on exhibition sales charged by Joensuu Artists’ Association is 30%.

PRICE LIST 2027

• Sysi Hall (163 m²): €1200.00 (€1000.00 for members)
• Hehku Space (16 m²): €350.00 (€300.00 for members)
• Hiili Space (11 m²): €200.00 (€150.00 for members)
• Kytö/Liekki Media Space (22 m²): €300.00 (€250.00 for members)
• Entire ground floor: €1900.00 (€1600.00 for members)

The electronic exhibition application must include the following information:

Solo exhibition:

• Artist’s name and contact details (address, phone number, email)

• Website or other relevant links

Group exhibition:

• Names of all participating artists

• Contact details of the group’s contact person

• Possible websites of the applicants

Exhibition details:

• Title of the exhibition

• Brief description of the theme (e.g. “Mixed media works on landscape 2024–25”), exhibition content and overall concept – what will be presented?

• The exhibition space you are applying for

• Preferred exhibition period (please indicate 2–3 suitable time slots)

Attachments (submitted as one single PDF file):

• A free-form work/exhibition plan

• CV (from all participating artists in a group exhibition)

• 5–10 high-quality images of works to be included in the exhibition or of recent production. Image files must be named as follows: artist_name_title_year_technique_size (e.g. helminen_mushroom mycelium_2025_mixed media_70 x 50 cm)

• The electronic application must be submitted as one PDF file (max. 10 MB) by 31 May 2026.

Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. The exhibition selections will be made by the exhibition committee, which does not provide justification for its decisions. Only applications submitted in PDF format will be reviewed.

Joensuu Artists’ Association hopes that artists selected for the 2027 exhibition program will organize accompanying events, such as artist talks.

The exhibitions will be selected by the exhibition committee. Decisions will be made in summer 2026.
