Art Center Ahjo
Art Center Ahjo is located right in the heart of Joensuu, in the art quarter opposite Joensuu's art museum ONNI. The cozy yellow wooden house with Jugend nuances was originally built as a gymnasium of the Classical Lyceum in 1911 according to Jac Ahrenberg's drawings. The building has preserved its old essence, such as the wonderful wooden floors and the details of the external architecture. The large windows give the six-meter-high halls beautiful, indirect natural light.
Art Center Ahjo is maintained by Joensuun Taiteilijaseura ry.
Ahjo is an art center that responds quickly and is open to new art forms. Various exhibitions and events are organized in the art center and we strive to present both national and international art.
Outside exhibition hours, the spaces can be rented for various occasions and events, such as concerts, lectures, theater and dance performances. There are a total of five spaces for rent: Sysi Hall (163 m²) and the Hehku (16 m²), Hiili (11 m²), Kytö (14 m²) and Liekki spaces (8 m²). In addition, Joensuu Art Lending Service operates on the premises.
Taidekeskus Ahjo is also an accessible space. There is a separate ramp for wheelchair users and for example prams at the main entrance. The spacious customer toilet is located on the first floor and is equipped, among other things, with an appropriate toilet seat safety frame. There are also no high doorsteps to hinder movement between the exhibition spaces. We also welcome guide dogs to the exhibition premises.
Admission to the exhibitions is free!
