Art Center Ahjo, Sysi-space: Antti Rönkä
1.11.-19.11.

Colorful abstractions painted by Antti Rönkä are on display in Ahjo's Sysi -space. In the paintings, the shapes are distorted, the contrasts are harsh and the works create overlapping spaces. Several of the paintings are done in cycles, painting a new layer or shape on top of the previous one.

Rönkä's works have often been conceptual and minimalistic. The rich and layered surfaces of the paintings on display now differ from before. There is no meaning to be found in the works, instead the paintings are created from an aesthetic play with spaces, colors and structures.

In the series of five vertical paintings on the longest wall of the exhibition space, the dark colored surfaces try to stick together, but the shapes of the paintings do not match each other in the works.

Antti Rönkä (b.1973) is a painter who graduated as a visual artist from the Imatra Art Academy (Imatran taideoppilaitos) in 1998. After graduation, he has organized 22 solo exhibitions and participated in several group exhibitions. Rönkä lives and works in Kuopio.
