Pia Sinkkonen's exhibition Paintings & little birds is a continuation of her bird-themed works. The exhibition consists of several paintings made on small wooden plywood bases, one large blackbird and a flock of birds that flew into the small HIILI space.

"Birds have been subjects of art, literature and music throughout history. Birds often symbolize wisdom and higher consciousness. For me, birds have come to my art making easily and naturally and somehow they always fly back into my works. My little study is like a birdhouse. The word birdhouse means a small, safe and cozy space. The image can be created, for example, from the words of a song I heard on the radio, from a fragment of Lauri Pohjanpää's poem, from my own feeling, or from a very concrete encounter with a bird. I'm not really a bird expert, and I don't recognize different bird species very much, so the birds in my works can either be strange new species never seen before or recognizable birds. It depends a little on the artist's mood. Ps. In the exhibition poster there is a goose named Akseli. That's another story." Pia Sinkkonen
