The A L T A R S is a collection of unique glass sculptures by glass artist Anna-Kaisa Kukkonen-Mad where she tells about experiencing the sacred in nature.

- Nature itself is perfect and holy, says Kukkonen-Madi.

The exhibition consists of altars where glass sculptures inspired by water and trees rest.

The glass sculptures of the artist, who lives and works in Heinävesi in North Karelia, are based on memories that have arisen from her own experiences in nature. The sculptures speak for untouched nature, which is becoming increasingly rare, and especially for clean natural waters, lakes, ponds and springs. The works remind what once existed. In Kukkonen-Mad's reduced works, the material properties of glass, three-dimensionality, transparency and optics, are emphasized. Kukkonen-Madi allows the glass to behave in its characteristic way. - My goal is to find the soul of the phenomenon and preserve a glimpse of it in the glass, she says.

Kukkonen-Madi's glass sculptures have been exhibited in, for example, the Finnish Museum of Glass and the main exhibition of the Venice Glass Weeks in Italy.
