Visual artist Kaisa Juntunen's solo exhibition “Sadepäiviä, poutapäiviä̈ - Rainy Days, Sunny Days” features magical-realistic nature themed works from 2020–2022.
The works in the exhibition have been inspired by the landscapes and nature of North Karelia which Kaisa Juntunen fell in love with at Kolin Ryynänen's artist residency in the summer of 2020, even so much so that she moved to Joensuu from Vantaa in January 2021. In the new landscapes of Joensuu Juntunen has looked at the constant change of the natural environment. The works show summer weather phenomena with its sunshine and rain showers. Through the nature and animal subjects typical of Juntunen she deals with the relationship between man and nature and the common energy that lies in everything.
Juntunen's black-and-white ink drawings and monochrome intaglio prints are meticulously executed works containing lots of stories and details. In addition, the exhibition features colored ink and pencil drawings as well as paintings. The works represent magical realism and feature elements of surrealism, pop art and fantasy art and the combining of different styles. In her works Juntunen seeks a fairytale atmosphere.
