SANDRA KORTELAINEN – LAYERS AND SHELLS

Sandra Kortelainen’s exhibition Layers and Shells opens at Art Center Ahjo, in the Sysi Hall, on 2 January 2026. The combined body of paintings and installations explores existence and change as layered aspects of nature.

Layers and Shells is built around the themes of stratification and transformation. The works examine the interfaces between the living and the non-living through a variety of surfaces, materials, and forms. They move in the space between what is visible and what is concealed, making versatile use of the exhibition space. Humans are presented as part of nature and its processes. Paintings and installations alternate throughout the space, employing a range of different materials.
