RIIKKA JOKIAHO - ANOTHER NATURE 5.3.-23.3.2025

"Trees and flowers seem more than just plants in quiet moments; they have a compelling presence and a light of their own."

Artist Riikka Jokiaho's exhibition focuses on trees and plants swirled by wind or water. In her work, Jokiaho explores the way they grow, the bouquets of needles, the rhythms of the branches, the rhythms of the leaves and the variations in colour that the seasons bring. Wisteria and rhizome have their own aesthetics. Natural environments, especially forests, are meaningful to the artist: for her, painting them is not only a search for beauty, light and presence, but also a tribute to the green that keeps us alive.

The paintings in the exhibition are a combination of experiences of light, colour and movement. Some of the paintings relate to forests and places that have already disappeared. The perspective is sometimes adult, sometimes child, standing on the border between the real and the imagined.
Riikka Jokiaho (b. 1966) lives and works in Äkäslompolo, Lapland
