Minttu Pyykkönen & Elisa Rauma:
The joint exhibition "At the Edge of a Moment" consists of the artistic work of two friends and artists, Elisa Rauma and Minttu Pyykkönen.
The exhibition explores the abstract theme of the concepts of beauty ideals and ugliness, their changes, and the emotions that arise from addressing these themes. The works in the exhibition ask whether the ugly can be beautiful, whether beauty can lie in imperfection and roughness, and how these concepts guide what we deem valuable and desirable in the world. Beauty is not just harmony and balance; through cracks, it can sometimes also be an expression of sensitivity, sorrow, and vulnerability.
The works include a variety of media, from sculpture and ceramics to painting and printmaking. The pieces are united by playful exploration of both figurative and abstract expression, roughness, accidents, bright contrasts, and an attempt to peek behind black-and-white aesthetic thinking.
Excerpt from Elisa Rauma’s poem:
"A thought runs by, beyond comprehension. A feeling over my consciousness. A moment, in that, I remain."
