MONA PISTE - GOT A MIRROR? 12.11.-23.11.2025

Mona Piste (b. 1985, Kuopio), a visual artist working in the Kainuu area, opens her exhibition Onx Peilii? / Got a mirror? on Nov. 11th 2025 in Taidekeskus Ahjo, Joensuu.

The exhibition gathers the artist’s works from the past ten years and is a collection of relief paintings, sculptures and installation in a minimalist color scheme.

Piste describes this series of works as a stripping-off and a cleansing ritual. The artist ponders is it possible to start living life anew, from a clean slate, or whether the "stain" of life experiences will inevitably remain part of a person for the remainder of their life.

The fragmentation of reality and the cyclical nature of life are reflected in the artworks by form and repetiton. Recurring shapes and patterns form the red thread that is in itself an underlying theme of the exhibition.

The primarily abstract artworks can take on various interpretations and have a Zen-like ascetic quality to them. The artworks call upon the viewer to stop and reflect on their inner world.

Piste characterizes her work as investigative meditation, at the heart of her process is thought, experimentation, and the use of materials in an unprejudiced way.

The exhibition is open to the public from Nov. 12 to Nov. 23, 2025 in Taidekeskus Ahjo, Sysi-sali.
