ART CENTER AHJO, SYSI-HALL; SIRPA IHANUS - PAPER AND BRONZE

SIRPA IHANUS - PAPER AND BRONZE 27.5.-14.6.2026

Paper and Bronze present sculptures and paper works by sculptor and paper artist Sirpa
Ihanus, in which sensitivity meets material presence. Ihanus was born in Tuupovaara,
Finland, and lived and worked in Hungary for over 30 years before relocating permanently to
Joensuu in 2024.

Her artistic practice is built on a dialogue between paper and bronze. In her paper works,
Ihanus explores the tension between natural surfaces and areas of intensive manipulation,
while bronze introduces slowness and a sense of historical depth. The themes of her works
arise from a changing environment and from the artist’s inner world—vulnerability, quiet
fears, and fleeting moments of beauty.

Sirpa Ihanus has held more than 20 solo exhibitions across Europe and has participated in
numerous international group exhibitions.
