ART CENTER AHJO, KYTÖ/LIEKKI-ROOM; SÄHKÖKEHTO COLLECTIVE "SELECTED VISUAL WORKS 2023–2024”

SÄHKÖKEHTO COLLECTIVE – "SELECTED VISUAL WORKS 2023–2024” August 20 – September 7, 2025

Repurposed electronics and mythical portraits take the stage in Sähkökehto Collective’s exhibition “Selected Visual Works 2023–2024” at Art Center Ahjo.

The exhibition, held in the Kytö/Liekki media space of Art Center Ahjo, showcases the visual output of the Sähkökehto Collective. Central works include the media piece 3X3.EXE and a curated selection of portraits created during the Human Scanner performances. The works reflect Electric Cradle’s (Sähkökehto) guiding principle: seeking beauty in the glitches of circuitry.

The media work 3X3.EXE premiered at the Helsinki Art Museum as part of a group exhibition included in the 2023 Outsider Art Festival program. Its visual elements were created using repurposed, retired video mixers, while the sound design incorporated, among other things, a modular synthesizer. The upcoming exhibition marks the piece’s Joensuu premiere, showcasing its nearly ten-minute duration in full.

The Human Scanner performance was previously seen in Joensuu last autumn as part of the Joenzoo installation and the Festival of Untimely Art. The exhibition presents a curated selection of portraits produced during these performances. These portraits of audience members were created using plexiglass and a book scanner. The results of this unconventional method range from traditional-style portraits to mythologically scaled works.

Sähkökehto is an interdisciplinary art collective based in Joensuu, driven and solely operated by sound and media artist Julius Jämsén. “Selected Visual Works 2023–2024” is his first solo exhibition.
