Minna Kähkönen, Pasi Siipola & Tiina Tanskanen - Imagine 12.2 - 2.3.2025
The exhibition Imagine by Kähkönen, Siipola, and Tanskanen is their sixth joint exhibition.
Minna Kähkönen
I am a visual artist and painter from Lahti (born 1980). I mainly paint with oil paints. My works often lack human figures altogether. The urban landscape is like a stage, where something is waiting to happen or where something has just occurred. The bright colors emphasize the strange atmosphere of the paintings. The landscapes are full of human traces, but no one is visible.
Pasi Siipola
I take photographs. The driving force behind my work is a dissatisfaction with the secularization of society and culture.
Tiina Tanskanen
I have been photographing an island. I remember the island as always being the same. Its trees the same height. Six tall pines, and a few more smaller ones. Under the snow blanket, a mat of lichen and a broken rock.
To prove or disprove my memories, I have started to document the island by taking photographs. For each photo series displayed in the exhibition, I have spent one hour capturing them. I photograph using a pinhole camera and color film. What fascinates me about this technique is the simplicity of the tool, and the sometimes dreamlike, occasionally surprising results it produces.
