NOORA AHONEN - NEEDS (NECESSARY) 12.2–2.3.2025

Noora Ahonen is an artist from Lappeenranta who works with mixed media, combining ceramics, installation art, and video art. In the exhibition at Art Center Ahjo, she explores consumer culture and our complex relationship with objects. The works are a slow soul's attempt to understand what has happened in our relationship with materials and why. In a relatively short period, we have shifted from handmade objects to mass production and mass ownership. New objects no longer just fulfill basic needs but owning them is often driven by the pursuit of an elusive ideal of perfection.

On the other hand, beyond all of this, objects can also be meaningful and even essential. They can help meet our fundamental needs or become important through memories or meanings attached to them. We need things, but at the same time, we can drown in them. This exhibition is built around exploring this contradiction.
