Art Center Ahjo, Hehku-Room: Vilhelmiina Tikka-Rissanen
Vilhelmiina Tikka-Rissanen - This and That 12.2.-2.3.2025
Vilhelmiina Tikka-Rissanen’s exhibition This and That revolves around everyday things. The exhibition consists of watercolor paintings that the artist has created based on observations close to her own life, drawn from her own home. Ordinary household items such as children’s toys, kitchenware, flowers, and more have been transformed into paintings. The collective body of work offers a glimpse into the artist’s life and inner landscape.
Observation is at the core of Tikka-Rissanen’s artistic practice. What she chooses to paint is connected to seeing. The interest in a subject and the desire to paint it arise from the excitement and awe experienced through visual observation. Ordinary things provide sufficiently meaningful starting points for a painting. One could say that Tikka-Rissanen paints “this and that” – the simple, often overlooked things around her.
Vilhelmiina Tikka-Rissanen (born 1984) is a visual artist and architect from Joensuu. She works with translucent painting and drawing techniques, particularly watercolor. Through her art, she makes visible her own world and the way she perceives it.
